Mount
Michael Benedictine Abbey & School Honored by Creighton
University with "Presidential Medallion"
At Creighton University's Commencement Mount Michael Benedictine
Abbey & School were recognized as follows
Citation:
" For
half a century, the Benedictine monks at Mount Michael
Abbey in Elkhorn, Nebraska, have been a stable force for
good in the region, fostering the Christian ideal of
a
balanced life of prayer, work and holy leisure so that
in all things, God may be glorified.
This
year, the abbey marks the 50th anniversary of becoming
a priory and the opening of St. John's Seminary, the minor
seminary that became the incomparable Mount Michael Benedictine
High School in 1970.
Named for St. Michael the archangel, the abbey and school
have devotedly provided Catholic education to young men,
who have gone on to become accomplished and faith-filled
professionals, community leaders, husbands, fathers, priests
and brothers.
Faithfully
living out the Benedictine form of hospitality as a primary
spiritual value, Mount Michael Abbey & School
have provided a place where the presence and peace of God
are palpable. The monks have welcomed "all as Christ," imparting
nourishment for the minds, hearts, bodies and souls of visitors
and students alike.
Creighton
University has enjoyed a great relationship with Mount
Michael High School. Many of Mount Michael's graduates
enroll at Creighton each year and enrich Creighton with the
spirituality they learned from the Benedictines.
In honor
of Mount Michael's jubilee celebration and in thanksgiving
for its contributions, Creighton proudly confers upon Mount
Michael Benedictine Abbey & School the University's Presidential
Medallion this sixteenth day of December, two thousand and
six."
