Service (Christian Service Program)

Community/Christian Service Form

Mount Michael Benedictine School offers a rich Christian Service experience that empowers students to live out their faith as disciples of Jesus Christ by loving God and neighbor. The command to love one another extends to all our sisters and brothers in Christ. Community Service is an essential part of our spirituality at Mount Michael Benedictine School.

Students are required to complete some minimum of hours of service at one agency during their Freshman (10 hours), Sophomore (20 hours), Junior (30 hours), and Senior (40 hours) year. Students will complete a minimum of 100 service hours upon graduation. Services hours are required as part of students' Theology Class.

  • Students may choose to participate in projects from agencies which are pre-approved by Mount Michael Campus Ministry. As much as possible, your service should involve direct interaction with people and should address injustices in the wider community. More specifically, students will perform direct service with the poor, disenfranchised, and marginalized in our community. This can also include people disadvantaged by poverty, disabled people, elderly persons, and persons in hospitals or in hospice care. Students may not miss any school time to complete service work. Our students can also be involved in activities such as tutoring other students, working at the Francis House, working with the Habitat for Humanity Program, helping with Confirmation Retreats for Junior High Schools, assisting the monks with yard work and snow removal, and by actively participating in some projects of this Campus Ministry Office.

  • The Campus Ministry Office and the Theology Department work together to facilitate the Christian Service Program. Full verification of hours for freshmen and sophomores is due on May 6. Full verification of hours for all juniors and seniors is due on April 28. Time Card Verification Form. Students need their parents' authorization before starting to work. Parents need to complete and submit the online Parental Authorization form, giving permission for the student's participation at an off-campus agency. All students are required to complete the Intent to Serve and submit the Parental Authorization by September 24.

  • Mission trips can be part of this experience.

  • Service is not accepted if:

1) the student is paid or given anything for their work,

2) the service is done for a family member (including grandparents), or

3) the service is performed for a for-profit business.

Advent Service Project - Christmas for All

  • Our Campus Ministry office encourages students to reflect on our many blessings and pay them forward by reaching out to support worthwhile organizations by collecting food, clothing and toys during the Christmas season. This collection begins in early November and culminates in mid December.
