Mount Michael believes in the education of the total person (growth physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually). The community service program is a tool for spiritual growth. As Christians our faith in God is manifested through our love and concern for service to others. Our talents that we so often take for granted are more greatly appreciated and developed through community service. Therefore, all Mount Michael students are required to fulfill service hours on a yearly basis.
Freshmen - 10 hours, Sophomores - 20 hours, Juniors - 30 hours, Seniors - 40 hours
Each class has a retreat held during the course of the school year. Moreover, the entire school spends a half-day of recollection on Ash Wednesday.
All students have the opportunity to join the monastic community for daily Eucharist at 7:15 AM as well as join the monastic community in the celebration of the Divine Office. Each month there are usually two all-school Masses in addition to special Feast Day Masses. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered to the student body during the season of Advent and again during the season of Lent. Students may also make arrangements for this sacrament with one of the monks at any time. At the beginning of every week the whole community gathers in chapel for morning prayer. Each morning a student leads the school in prayer over the PA system.
Mount Michael has students who have been mandated by the Archdiocese of Omaha to serve as Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist.
On each residential floor the day usually concludes with prayer. Other evening prayer activities occasionally scheduled include the celebration of Mass, the recitation of the Rosary, and communal prayer. A prayer led by a Mount Michael student is said before each home football and basketball contest.
