French


French I:


French 1 is the first course of a three part French series designed to empower students to learn to speak, read, write and comprehend French in a culturally authentic manner. Designed to support the National Foreign Language Standards, French 1 is a comprehensive course integrating introductory content, varied methodology and interactive activities. As a standards-based instructional and learning course, it develops a student’s language skills by incorporating and integrating a text, practice workbooks, an audio program, a video program, communicative activities and culture.


French II:

 

French 2 is the second course of a three part French series designed to empower students to learn to speak, read, write and comprehend French in a culturally authentic manner. Designed to support the National Foreign Language Standards, French 2 is a comprehensive course integrating content, varied methodology and interactive activities. As a standards-based instructional and learning course, French 2 continues to develop a student’s language skills by incorporating and integrating a text, practice workbooks, an audio program, a video program, communicative activities and culture. 


French III


French 3 is the final course of a three part French series designed to empower students to learn to speak, read, write and comprehend French in a culturally authentic manner. Designed to support the National Foreign Language Standards, French 3 is a comprehensive course integrating advanced content, varied methodology and interactive activities. As a standards-based instructional and learning course, French 3 is an elective course at Mount Michael, which continues to develop a student’s language skills by incorporating and integrating all the materials from French 1 and 2. It is a rigorous course increasing the student’s vocabulary base and exposing him to the majority of the verbs tenses in French. As an honors course, French 3 helps to prepare the student for fourth year French by spiraling previously learned content as well as adding new material to the student’s knowledge base.


French IV:


French 4 is an elective course at Mount Michael which provides advanced students with the guidance and structure to continue learning French by developing higher level skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking. It is an honors course that reviews previously learned content by integrating grammar and culture in meaningful, contextual and open-ended exercises. French 4 integrates the development of the four language skills by requiring the student to assimilate, synthesize and analyze their skills and knowledge, ideally in preparation for the AP French language examination. Designed for students with a strong foundation, French 4 not only demands a solid background, but also requires that the students possess intrinsic values of motivation and learning in order to be successful. In addition, the course is integrated with a general survey of French history and literature through the centuries to increase student awareness of French heritage and civilization.


Spanish


Spanish I:

 

Spanish 1 is the first course of a three part Spanish series designed to empower students to learn to speak, read, write and comprehend Spanish in a culturally authentic manner. Designed to support the National Foreign Language Standards, Spanish 1 is a comprehensive course integrating introductory content, varied methodology and interactive activities. As a standards-based instructional and learning course, it develops a student’s language skills by incorporating and integrating a text, practice workbooks, an audio program, a video program, communicative activities and culture.


Spanish II:

Latin


Latin I:

 

Latin I is the first course designed to empower students to learn to speak, read, write and comprehend Latin in a culturally authentic manner. Emphasis will be placed on pronunciation but there will not be as much conversation as one would find in a Spanish or French class. Designed to support the National Foreign Language Standards, Latin I is a comprehensive course integrating introductory content, varied methodology and interactive activities. As a standards-based instructional and learning course, it develops a student’s language skills by incorporating history, literature, and mythology in the text. Students will learn and use Latin expressions, maxims, and abbreviations in common use today along with many English words derived from Latin. The course is 6 credits for the year.
